It has been a very busy spring so far. Gossett Marketing has been in business for more than 25 years and yet we are always looking for new business.

We are quite fortunate that most of our clients have been with us for more than 10 years but that doesn’t stop us from reaching out to new and different client prospects.

I participated in a pitch day last week for a major event coming to Miami. I was surprised when they asked why I wanted to get more business.

While we are fortunate that most of our clients are loyal you just never know when a situation or management change will result in a reduction or loss of the business. In addition, I like to have a very diverse client base. I learned that lesson a very long time ago when most of my business was in travel & tourism. Unfortunately, 9/11 occurred and I lost 80% of my business overnight.

And of course, we are also looking to expand our business with our existing clients. Many of them are quite large corporations and we know that we don’t provide them with all their promotional solutions, but we’d like to!

So, I have been spending the spring meeting with existing clients and new prospects. I’m happy to report that it has been a good experience for me. I realized that I had not spent as much time with our existing clients in the past year as I should have. It was good to really reconnect with each of them.

Having account managers that are responsible for the day-to-day dealings with clients is a blessing and can be a curse. I know they are taking care of the clients but at the same time, I know that I need to “poke” my head in once in a while. Make sure everyone’s needs are being met and bring my perspective to their projects. And a few of them let me know I hadn’t been around in a bit “too long”. Lesson learned for sure.

And in a recent meeting with a prospective client (now new client I am happy to say), I was with the account manager and realized that she was stumbling in some of her presentation. I stepped in and later discussed further with the her a better way to be telling our story. Another benefit of getting out and about. Making sure that everyone is comfortable in their role and helping them improve.

So, if you haven’t spent much time with your clients or your sales people lately, maybe it’s time to do a different kind of spring tune up. I think you’ll be glad you did.

We humans love to measure things. A handy dandy rain gauge with your logo on it is a fun spring marketing promotional item. Let’s Help Each Other Sip And Save Mother Earth

We have finally discovered the straw that broke into our consciousness about single-use plastic waste: The single-serve plastic straw. Thanks to a 9-year old boy who observed a common problem in a restaurant and pursued it. Now, the effort to ban single-use plastic has become a world-wide movement that is helping us humans try to clean up our mess. By eliminating single-use straw consumption we are helping to put an end to this home-wrecker and give our mother earth a greater chance of survival.
