An App To Make Your Trade Show Season More Exciting

Ok, I’m going out on a limb here. As a promotional marketing agency specializing in traditional, physical marketing materials, I am now going to advocate adding a bit of “high-tech” fun to your efforts this upcoming trade show season.

I’m not going to get technical on you, because that’s just not who I am, but I do have a fun idea that could make you the talk of the trade show.

I recently found out about a great free app called “what 3 words.” As they describe on their website, “what3words provides a precise and incredibly simple way to talk about location. We have divided the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares and assigned each one a unique 3-word address. It means everyone and everywhere now has an address.”

How It All Started

I love how the app was invented too. Here’s the story as posted on their website. “what3words was created because addressing around the world simply isn’t good enough for everyday needs. Originally from the music industry, Chris Sheldrick identified the need for a better addressing system, after bands and equipment kept getting lost. Chris enlisted the help of two friends, Jack Waley-Cohen and Mohan Ganesalingam, to devise the core algorithm, build the first wordlist and create the app and website.” Absolute genius isn’t it?

Have A Precise Trade Show Booth Address

Can you see where I’m going with this? Your trade show booth can have a precise three-word address which you can share on your traditional marketing materials. You can create exciting marketing materials and come across as being tech-savvy too.

For example: The what3word address of my physical business is herring.roof.potions. Wouldn’t it be fun to have and share the what3word address of your trade show booth? Now, 3m x 3m is roughly 9’ x 9’. Trade show booths vary in size with typical sizes being 10’ x 10’, 10’ x 20’ or 20’ x 20’. So, as you can see you can pinpoint exactly where you or a colleague would be standing and your clients, prospects and other trade show visitors can make their way right to you.

How It Works

When you go to the what3word app from any location, it will give you the three words associated with the exact spot you are in. So you merely have to stand in your tradeshow booth space, get the three-word address and put it on your marketing materials. If you have a larger booth, you could have more than one address, depending on where you’re standing!

You could create an entire digital campaign around your address too. You could even make t-shirts, caps and other traditional items with your booth address. It would certainly get people talking!

Beyond Trade Show Season

Think about other promotional events that you sponsor during the year and imagine how you can create excitement and interest with this single app. You could post what3word addresses for individual workspaces throughout your office. I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point and know that you’ll be able to make an impression and introduce a fun way to engage with attendees with your what3word address.

If you’d like more ideas, don’t hesitate to call. My team and I are full of them!
